Warmcel

Warmcel 100

Loft insulated with Warmcel

Warmcel 100 is a loose-fill DIY cellulose fibre insulation suitable for lofts and timber floors. It is manufactured in South Wales from finely shredded recycled newspapers - the same ones you put in your recycling box. It comes in easy to handle 8kg bags - you just spread it out. It is fire retardant, non-irritant, non-toxic and safe to handle.
New research from BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) has revealed that Warmcel 100 has an overall “better than zero carbon impact”. In other words the amount of carbon sequestered in the product is greater than the amount of carbon released during the manufacture, installation and eventual removal of the product from the building.

How many bags of Warmcel do I need?

Enter the area and depth to which you wish to insulate in the boxes below and click on the Calculate button. This will tell you how many bags of Warmcel you need. The recommended thickness for loft insulation is 270mm but because all our natural insulation products are more thermally efficient we recommend a thickness of 250mm.

Specification

Warmcel 100 conforms to British Standard BS5803,1985 "thermal insulation for use in pitched roof spaces and dwellings", and the requirements of BS5803, Part4:1985 "methods for determining flammability & resistances to smouldering". The insulation is composed of cellulose fibres derived from waste newspapers treated with fire retardant and biocidal additives.
Warmcel 100 has no deleterious effect on PVC covered electrical wiring. Average density installed 40kg/m3. Thermal Conductivity 0.040W/mK.

Installation

Read the How to lay Warmcel 100 guide or watch the installation video (requires Flash).

Why You Should Install a Natural Insulation

Why You Should Install a Natural Insulation

The Big Picture
Natural Insulations:

  • Are more thermally efficient than mineral fibre
  • Use less energy and emit less CO2 in manufacture than mineral fibre (particularly Warmcel 100)
  • Are safer to handle than mineral fibre
  • Have the ability to absorb and desorb moisture without losing their efficiency
  • Can store CO2 during growth (hemp)
  • Can help UK sheep farmers (Thermafleece and Black Mountain)
  • Can be composted or incinerated for energy use at the end of their (long) life
  • Warmcel 100 makes use of recycled newsprint
